J CHURCH leni riefenstahl's tinder box 7"

Sodapop webzine
A right off the presses 7" by the world's most prolific pop-punk band. Three songs, one better than the other. The title-track is one of the best songs from their last album and "Closing time in an early town" stands up there, but the peak has to be reached with the cover of Neil Young's "Harvest": it's an acoustic version by Lance alone, with some cardiology machine noises in the back and the distorted/filtered voice made classic by the band's ballads. A masterpiece, from a band that never disappoints. Excellent artwork.

Grade: A-. Man, I wish i could keep up with J Church, because they're such an awesome band. After all these years, they're still good, and not just for nostalgia. J Church has paved the way for so many bands, and yet they're still good 'ol J Church... Even still putting out 7"s on random labels from all over the world. This one comes from Italy. and it's good! if you're willing to order from Italy, and you can keep up with J Church better than i can, then more power to you. Listen to this while: Trying to get J-Church to put something out on your own label.

2 unreleased and an album cut from the only indie band from California that shouldn't be shot in the head twice then have their eyes gouged out with this very pen.

If I were to make an obvious comparison with this band and another legendary San Francisco band, would you hold it against me? Seriously, this is a pretty good record. Production's tight, the songs are tight it's just thatÖ.wellÖI can't help but be reminded of a certain album released on DGC in 1995 by said aformentioned band. "Leni Reiffenstahl's tinder box" could definetly be a b-side from that album. Yeah yeah, I know the connections' there, but it isn't the drummer that produces that sound. I've also never been much of a fan of having to change the speed of my record player midway through a 7" but the Neil Young cover makes it all worth it. Seriously though, they probably should have saved this for some type of tribute comp, nice attempt but it just sorta falls short. Overall, I would say if you see this and like J Church already, you won't be dissapointed.
